Poll: Romero cannot win on November 7th Last
week, State Senator Craig Romero released a memo about a poll taken in the 3rd
Congressional district in late September. It appears that Romero and Congressman
Charlie Melancon agree on one thing: Craig Romero is receiving support from less
than 25% of the people in the 3rd District. Romero's
poll, conducted only six weeks before Election Day, showed him receiving only
24 percent of the vote. Even his pollster, Public Opinion Strategies from Alexandria,
VA, can only hope that "the Romero campaign should be able to force [Melancon]
into a runoff."
"This poll is an indication of a desperate campaign that knows it can't win,"
Campaign Manager Bradley Beychok said. "Romero's poll is about as accurate as
the candidate descriptions within the poll."
In the candidate description portion of the poll, Craig Romero is listed as "a
12-term Republican state Senator from New Iberia." If Senator Romero were in his
12th term, he would have started his political career at age 5. Additionally,
Charlie Melancon is described as being from Ascension Parish. Melancon
lives in Assumption Parish. "If Romero can't get over 24% of the vote in his own
grossly inaccurate poll, then his campaign is in serious trouble," Beychok added.
