Melancon Receives Endorsement from Democrats for Life

Democrats For Life of America announced today that they have endorsed Congressman Charlie Melancon for re-election and commended his leadership in Congress to support pregnant women and protect unborn children.

"I am honored to be endorsed by Democrats for Life of America," Melancon said. "DFLA was instrumental in crafting the Pregnant Women Support Act, a bill I co-sponsored that will help women carry their pregnancies to term. I look forward to working with DFLA in the future to continue to reduce abortions in America."

The Pregnant Women Support Act will help women bring their children to term by providing support and other options than abortion. The bill was a result of the Democrats For Life of American 95-10 Initiative to decrease the abortion rate by 95 percent in 10 years by helping women. The legislation included 15 initiatives including eliminating pregnancy as a preexisting condition for health insurance purposes, supporting college-age pregnant women and mothers so they can remain in school, and expanding the adoption tax credit.

"It is critical for pro-life voters to support proven leaders like Charlie Melancon who share our belief that protecting the rights of the unborn and protecting pregnant women are of the utmost importance. That is why we are proud to endorse his campaign and are committed to helping Charlie Melancon win in November."

Democrats For Life of America was founded in 1999 to mobilize Democrats at the local, state, and national levels. Their primary mission has been to elect pro-life Democrats, support pro-life elected officials, promote a pro-life plank in the Democratic Party platform and achieve legislation that fosters respect for human life. In addition to the grassroots support across America, the group has several Members of Congress who are actively promoting the group's mission.
