MELANCON RAISES OVER $1 MILLION
DOLLARS IN 2005
Poll shows him over crucial 50% re-election threshhold Meaux-mentum
is strong again
NAPOLEONVILLE, LA – Rep. Charlie
Melancon (D-Napoleonville) raised a total $1,021,958.00 in 2005.
Melancon raised more than $191,000 in the final quarter for his
Congressional re-election, which gives him over $880,000 in the
bank with ten months before the 2006 midterm elections.
Polling has shown Melancon to
have already crossed the crucial 50% re-election threshhold. The
same polling showed him beating his likely opponent by 27% percentage
points in a head to head matchup (memo available upon request).
"Since the storms hit the Congressman
hasn't had much time at all to focus on raising money. If it wasn't
for his friends and colleagues who believe His friends and colleagues
who raised this money gave him the ability to focus on his helping
his district after Katrina and Rita."
Melancon has maintained a crushing
2:1 Cash on Hand advantage over his likely opponent and is leading
him in polling even in the Senator Romero's own state senate district.
Romero's fundraising has cooled considerably, raising $200,000 in
his first ten days, he has raised less every quarter since.
