MELANCON ANNOUNCES KEY ENDORSEMENTS
Napoleonville, La.- Congressman
Charlie Melancon (D-Napoleonville) announced support from two former
opponents today. State Senator Reggie Dupre and State Representative
Damon Baldone have both endorsed the first-term congressman.
In 2004, Senator Dupre began
as a candidate for the 3rd district seat. As the campaign progressed,
he resigned from the race and enthusiastically endorsed Melancon.
Dupre, who has held his District 20 seat in the Senate for three
years after serving in the House for five years, represents parts
of four house districts in Terrebonne and LaFourche Parishes.
“I was proud to endorse Charlie
in 2004 and I am proud to do it again,” Dupre said. “He has been
a strong advocate for Louisiana and has served us well through some
of our most difficult times.”
Representative Baldone finished
the 2004 campaign with 10% of the vote in the general election,
which was over 25,000 votes. In the runoff, Baldone endorsed Melancon.
Baldone has represented parts of Terrebonne and LaFourche Parishes
in District 53 for six years.
“Charlie has done the type of
job that I expected he would when I endorsed him in 2004,” Baldone
said. “It is without hesitation that I endorse him for another term
to continue the outstanding work he has done for our district.”
