Melancon Receives Alliance
for Good Government Award
New Orleans- Congressman Charlie
Melancon (Napoleonville) recently received an award from the St.
Bernard Chapter of the New Orleans area organization the Alliance
for Good Government.
Melancon was named “Legislator
of the Year” by the organization, one of only four such awards given
annually to elected officials at all levels of government. The Alliance,
founded in 1967, is “an organization comprised of concerned citizens
from all walks of life and political persuasions, who believe in
good government for the citizens of the State of Louisiana.”
“It is truly an honor to receive
this award,” Melancon said. “St. Bernard has suffered through so
much and I have had the chance to see great courage and strength
in the people devastated by these storms. Their resolve and determination
to recover and rebuild stronger than before is deserving of recognition
everyday. I will not stop fighting for the people of South Louisiana.”
St. Bernard Parish was one of
the hardest hit areas by Hurricane Katrina. Representative Melancon
went to St. Bernard Parish just one day after the hurricane hit
and has since worked tirelessly to bring relief to the area and
ensure that the area receives everything it needs to continue its
road to recovery.
